How I’m Preparing for My Biggest Handmade Event Yet
There are certain moments in a small business that feel like turning points. For me, preparing for my first (possible) Prego Expo is one of those moments.
Over the next several months, my knitting needles will be busier than ever as I work toward creating a beautiful collection of handmade baby knits that I hope families will treasure for years to come. This isn’t just another craft show—it’s an opportunity to introduce my work to parents, grandparents, and gift-givers who value handmade quality and thoughtful design.
Building a Collection with Purpose
This year’s collection is centered around Elephants in Bloom, a line inspired by gentle colors, timeless designs, and the comfort every baby deserves.
I’m creating a variety of handmade pieces, including:
- Corner-to-corner baby blankets
- Soft knitted loveys
- Receiving blankets
- Stroller blankets
- Crib blankets
- Coordinating baby accessories
Every piece is knitted one stitch at a time using carefully selected yarns and a calming color palette of soft greys paired with delicate variegated shades.
What Preparation Really Looks Like
When people think about preparing for a handmade event, they often imagine knitting all day. While that’s certainly part of it, there’s so much more happening behind the scenes.
My days include:
- Planning production schedules
- Ordering yarn and supplies
- Testing new color combinations
- Photographing finished pieces
- Organizing inventory
- Designing booth displays
- Writing product descriptions
- Preparing packaging and branding materials
Each task helps create a shopping experience that reflects the care I put into every handmade item.
Why Handmade Matters
In a world filled with mass-produced products, I believe handmade gifts tell a different story.
A handmade blanket isn’t just something to keep a baby warm. It becomes part of bedtime routines, stroller rides, first photos, and family memories. My hope is that every blanket and lovey I create becomes a cherished keepsake that can be enjoyed for years.
Knowing that these pieces may become part of a family’s story is what inspires me every time I cast on a new project.

Whether you’re a fellow maker, a knitting enthusiast, or someone searching for a meaningful gift for a little one, I’m so happy you’re here.
Thank you for following along as I prepare for my biggest handmade event yet. I can’t wait to share what’s coming next.
